A couple of weeks ago, he was in negotiations.
Then, he was off the project because he wanted too much money.
Now, it's 100% confirmed and official.
Stephen Sommers, the man who brought us The Mummy, the Mummy Returns, and Van Helsing, has just signed on to bring us the live-action movie version of....
G.I. Joe
In a statement released to the press, Sommers says he's not doing this just because Transformers was such a big hit. "Remember, Pirates of the Carribean was a big hit, but the Haunted Mansion, not so much," Sommers reminds us.
Sommers also says, "Our vision (for 'The Mummy') was clear the time the first trailer played during the Super Bowl, and by the time this one plays a Super Bowl, you'll see the coolest characters and visuals you can imagine, and beyond-state-of-the-art equipment."
Filming starts in February for a Summer 2009 release.
And in other news, Drew Carey begins his stint as host of the Price is Right on October 15.
