Wow. Tonight, I took a drive out to Whitewood Sands. It was finally time to see the damage for myself.
I was shocked really. A lot of those cottages have been built so tight against the railway that it's amazing no houses were destroyed.
As they said on the news, the crash site is open to the public now, in the interests of openness, so my Dad and I were dodging the heavy equipment being used to clean up the spill, walking right up to the wrecked tanker cars and peering through the gaping holes. It was quite the sight to see.
Sure hope the pictures turn out. My sister is on another road trip right now, so I didn't have her digital camera. Used my good ol' reliable 35mm.
